Design of the central spaces of Borgomeduna

Public competition project for the road network renovation in a district of Pordenone, Italy.

The will to integrate the existing economic activities, with the need to achieve a new space of social aggregation and modal interchange, is at the base of the choice to propose a “multiform” space. The “square”, conceived as junction and meeting point, will be the focus. Coloured flooring, urban furniture and canopies will characterized  not only the square itself but also the streets that converge to it.

There will be several sets: the Rotonda, with a green public space and a rainwater reuse system; the “Blue” aggregation area, characterized by a wooden and vertical green background wall; the “Yellow”  area dedicated to the bus stop; the “Green” and “Pink” area for the existing commercial activities; finally the “Orange” area/route that will visually connect the main square with the new entrance to the Baleno Park.

The car parks in front of the banks will be relocated with a new design, that will ensure a more functional use and separated from the roundabout traffic. They will moreover be integrated ulterior places cars serving the new public space, which will serve as an interchange between traffic vehicular and slow mobility.
