An artificial beach for the recovery of a protected and degraded area of Malta.
Masterplan proposal for the urban regeneration of Saint Paul’s Bay waterfront in Xemxija (Malta).
Focus of the project is the creation of a new man-made sand beach of approx. 5300 square meters located in front of the Simar Nature Reserve, design constraint to be respected, divided into beach with services in the middle and beach without services on either side.
Particular attention was paid to the definition of access to the beach club, through a system of paths, ramps and stairways, and the distribution of the functions to ensure attractiveness and tourist reception.
The master plan also provides a new outer ring road to reduce the traffic currently present in Saint Paul Bay and to connect with Mellieha, the identification of plots for new commercial areas (hotels, restaurants, services) in the proximity of the beach and the expansion of the existing marina to allow the mooring of several boats.
