Urban Greening Project in an environmentally friendly manner

Second Place Winners of Urban Greening Project!

We are thrilled to share the news of our architectural studio securing the second place in the prestigious competition initiated by the Maltese government.

Our journey began with the noble goal of preserving and enhancing the unique historical character of the site. The location, a fortified glacis forming part of the Santa Margherita Lines, holds immense cultural significance and is classified as a Grade 1 scheduled area. It is also designated as a site of Scientific Importance and Area of Ecological Importance (Vittoriosa Policies GE01/GG19).

The central theme of our proposal has developed by focusing on the integration of new and pre-existing structures within the site, while harmonizing them with the historic landscaping. The crucial part of our Urban Greening Project lies in the preservation of the natural habitat that has thrived here for years. Our proposal envisions a transformative change for the area, making it more accessible to the public for recreational purposes.

We embraced natural materials, seamlessly integrating our architectural vision with the environment.

The Urban Greening Project encompasses four distinct areas:

🐾 Dog Park: A dedicated haven where our beloved furry companions can frolic freely.

🎈 Informal Play Area: A space designed to ignite the imagination and excitement of children.

🍉 Picnic Area: Equipped with tables and benches, this spot invites friends and families to relish a delightful day out amidst nature.

🌳 Open Green Space: A sprawling recreational area that allows visitors to connect with nature, unwind, and find tranquility.

Throughout the design process, each intervention was carefully curated to be minimal, reversible, and respectful of the woodland character that defines the location.
